Expanded library space was a necessity at Barat College, as was the need to consolidate scattered parking lots and redefine unclear circulation paths that marred the beautiful wooded campus, scenic with ravines and stands of native oak trees. A campus master plan was prepared identifying appropriate sites for future facilities, and the new 20,000 sf library was the first to be undertaken.

In addition to the book stacks and reading areas, there is a seminar room, a special collections room, and a computer room. The building was designed in a contemporary style utilizing contextual materials that integrate it with the family of existing buildings on the campus.
