The City of Stockholm and the Swedish State Railway held a design competition for the design of a civic building utilizing the air rights above the rail yards near Stockholm’s historic and business districts. The 375,000 sf project was to include a new Station Hall and Convention Center under one roof, with adjacent retail, residential, and hotel.

Two rectangular bar shaped buildings extend the length of the rail yard, one an office building and one a hotel. Steel cables from the roofs of these two bars span the rail yard and hold up the roof of the new station and convention center.

Local architects AIX and architects, landscape designers, and project managers TEMA collaborated on the project.
